In recent years, the Detroit Tigers’ window of opportunity has been heavily discussed among fans and critics. The team has had the World Series in its sights, and it has spared no expense filling its roster with players who it believed could bring about a victory. Fortune has not favored the Tigers in recent years, and the 2015 season closed with the team at the bottom of the division, despite heavy spending.
Today, fans are speculating about the future of the Tigers. If the team continues to pay top dollar for top players, it may be able to keep its window open, despite the impending uphill battle. If management opts to decrease payroll expenditures, the team will probably not see the playoffs for some time. The 2017 and 2018 seasons hinge on general manager Al Avila’s offseason decisions, especially with regard to Anibal Sanchez, Justin Upton, J.D. Martinez, and other stars who may be up for trade soon.
